Wheel end – connection of axle and wheel
The components used to brake the vehicle are located at the interface between the axle and wheel. Pneumatic disc brakes convert kinetic energy into thermal energy – with a high level of efficiency, progressivity, and reliability.
The Knorr-Bremse wheel end package consists of a brake rotor, disc brake, brake pads and brake actuator.
High-performance on the wheel
Braking systems deliver high performance. They develop clamping forces of over 25 tons, can tolerate temperatures of up to 900 degrees, and handle shocks up to 25 times the force of gravity – all without a loss of function. They also manage vibrations, heat, cold, moisture, dust, dirt, and impacts from rocks. Despite all of this, Knorr-Bremse wheel brakes regularly run for millions of kilometers on the road.
Optimally coordinated components
Requirements placed on the brake pad and brake disc as frictional partners with respect to environmental conditions and wear are enormous. Knorr-Bremse ensures optimal coordination of all components with respect to installation space, temperature, function, strength, noise and dynamism through extensive laboratory and vehicle testing.
