System solutions that make road transport safer and more efficient

Pneumatic disc brakes made the Commercial Vehicle Systems business unit great. Today, the unit's diverse product portfolio covering multiple system levels makes an important contribution to greater safety and energy efficiency in transportation and mobility on the road – and off.

Leading system solutions from Knorr-Bremse are used around the world in trucks, buses, trailers, and agricultural machinery. The latest generation of brake control systems from Knorr-Bremse, for example, is combining the previously separate system landscapes of conventional ABS and electronically controlled EBS in a modular platform. This opens up all new possibilities in the growing field of autonomous driving. Alongside the complete wheel end package, which includes disc brakes for different applications, brake discs, brake cylinders and brake linings, Knorr-Bremse is expanding the limits of what is possible in the field of commercial vehicle brakes today.

The many different driver assistance systems Knorr-Bremse is developing alongside industrial partners and users relieve drivers, help mediate typical causes of accidents, and are leaders in the commercial vehicle market as well – just like the company’s systems for compressed air generation and treatment.

Decisive expertise for the future of driving, under a single roof

The company is adding commercial vehicle steering to its core areas of expertise. Knorr-Bremse is developing the fully electronic steering EPS (Electronic Power Steering) as a completely redundant and failsafe steering system. With its modular system approach, EPS can be used in applications for all classes of commercial vehicles with little integration work required. Designed as a power-on-demand system, EPS from Knorr-Bremse is energy efficient and meets the highest safety standards.

With the latest brake and steering technologies, Knorr-Bremse offers the key driving dynamic actuators that make increasingly assisted and automated driving possible. By improving integration of individual sub-systems on the vehicle level, the company is advancing development towards automation level 4 and beyond. This includes developing redundant system architectures that fulfill their functional requirements even if errors occur in sub-systems. This applies to the braking and steering systems, as well as the power supply.

Pooled expertise on e-mobility

The shift to electric mobility is bringing with it a fundamental transformation in the system architecture of commercial vehicles. Knorr-Bremse has pooled its e-mobility expertise in the eCUBATOR® innovation unit in order to fully participate in this development. There, innovative and intelligent solutions for electric commercial vehicles are created through close collaboration with customers and technology partners.

Portfolio closely coordinated with industry and operators

Knorr-Bremse's product portfolio includes drive train systems, as well as valves for engine air management and torsional vibration dampers for on-highway, off-highway, and industrial applications. No matter which system, Knorr-Bremse works closely with industry partners and operators to precisely develop solutions to meet relevant practical requirements. The company has divided its expertise into Centers of Competence (CoC) in order to optimally allocate its specialist know-how. These include the Brake Control and Wheelend, areas, driver assistance systems and highly automated driving (ADAS / HAD), Air Supply, Steering, Drivetrain and eCUBATOR .
