Miter boxes – Flexible solutions for all vehicle classes and architectures.
Miter boxes are required when a direct, straight mechanical connection of the steering column and the gear cannot be established due to the relative arrangement of the components in the vehicle. Knorr-Bremse provides an extensive portfolio of miter boxes that covers all common installation setups. For special installation structures in trucks and buses, angular designs with shaft angles of up to 120° are available. Knorr-Bremse miter boxes can either be flanged onto the gear directly or located elsewhere in the vehicle.

Maintenance-free design for precise transmission of steering forces
Miter boxes consist of four main components: an input and an output shaft including the bevel gearing, the bearing and the housing. Special T-Box designs can also have two output shafts. Knorr-Bremse miter boxes come with a lossless 1:1 transmission. Consequently, the steering performance is not negatively affected at all. Our designs are maintenance-free and guarantee for both extraordinarily high lifetime and low noise. On top of that, we realize the lightest-possible construction by utilizing light-metal alloys for the housing.
Key benefits of the Knorr-Bremse miter boxes:
- Robust design
- Maintenance-free design
- Weight-saving construction
- Flexible mounting positions
- Integration into the gear possible
- Modular approach and market-specific designs for customer-specific applications
