Steering shafts – Great driver comfort through compensation for vibrations and backlash.

The steering shaft realizes the mechanical connection of the steering column and the steering gear. Our Knorr-Bremse steering shafts do so while simultaneously compensating for all relative movements that occur between the cabin and the drivetrain during operation. Thus, all external influence on the steering behavior of the commercial vehicle is precluded. By avoiding backlash and vibrations of the steering wheel resulting from potentially disadvantageous road conditions, our steering shafts contribute to excellent driver comfort.

USPs:

  • Increased driver comfort
  • Low weight
  • Reduced torsional backlash
  • Modular designs for all vehicle classes and architectures
  • Large travel distance
  • Maintenance-free design
  • Reduced friction

Precise transmission of steering forces and maintenance-free design

The innovative principle of our steering shafts is based upon a sliding connection of an outer tube and a profiled shaft inside. This design is the result of continuous improvement and allows for the abovementioned compensation of relative movements that occur between the drivetrain and the cabin. Furthermore, it meets even the highest customer demands concerning friction, noise and torsional backlash. Consequently, torque and phase fluctuations that would negatively impact the steering behavior are minimized. All our steering shafts are designed for maintenance-free operation and excellent durability rendering re-lubrication obsolete for the entire lifecycle.

Flexible adaptability to all vehicle classes and lightweight construction

Knorr-Bremse steering shafts build upon a modular structure essentially consisting of the shaft itself and connector joints at each end. Said approach allows for maximum flexibility through the combination of various shaft lengths with versatile connection elements. Consequently, Knorr-Bremse can provide solutions for all vehicle classes and architectures ranging from light commercial vehicles and buses to heavy trucks. In addition, all Knorr-Bremse steering shafts utilize lightweight material in order to contribute to reduced fuel consumption.

Key benefits of the Knorr-Bremse steering shafts:

  • Modular approach and market-specific designs for customer-specific applications
  • Weight-saving design enables fuel and CO2 emission savings
  • Compensation for road damages and avoidance of vibration of the steering wheel
  • Telescope features for length adjustments
  • Maintenance-free
  • Minimal displacement forces
  • Robust design
