Steering column – Continuous adjustability for great driver comfort
The steering column pivots the steering wheel and represents its physical link to the steering shaft and the steering gear. On top of that, Knorr-Bremse steering columns enable continuous adjustment of the steering wheel in terms of height and angle. Hence, they allow for it to be positioned ideally for every individual driver in order to facilitate ergonomic and comfortable working conditions. Consequently, Knorr-Bremse steering columns represent an integral component in all contemporary commercial vehicles.
USPs:
- Continuous adjustability of height and angle
- Superior ergonomics and driver comfort
- Penumatic return to parking position
- Low weight
- Modular designs for all vehicle classes and architectures
Pneumatic return to parking position for easy entry and exit of the cabin
In addition to the abovementioned features, our steering columns also provide a pneumatic mechanism that returns the steering wheel to its parking position in order to enable eased entry and exit of the cabin. Consequently, ergonomics are guaranteed both while driving and during entry and exit of the vehicle. Furthermore, the release method of the pneumatic steering wheel locking mechanism can either be controlled with a button, a foot pedal or a handle lever.
Modular lightweight designs for all vehicle classes and architectures
Our modular system enables maximum variability and provides the basis for solutions for all vehicle architectures and classes ranging from light commercial vehicles and buses all the way to heavy duty trucks. Therefore, Knorr-Bremse steering columns enable extensive flexibility concerning the location of the steering wheel inside the driver cabin. All our steering columns are designed to provide the required high stiffness utilizing lightweight materials. In this way, both mechanical and weight requirements are met simultaneously.
Key benefits of the Knorr-Bremse steering columns:
- Modular approach and market specific designs for all vehicle classes and architectures
- Weight-saving design enables fuel and CO2 emission savings
- Compensation for road damages and avoidance of vibration of the steering wheel
