In June 2010, the new Knorr-Bremse ČR plant in Liberec was inaugurated. With this step, Knorr-Bremse GMBH made it clear that it wants to continue the Knorr-Bremse tradition in the Czech Republic even in times of crisis.
History of Knorr-Bremse in the Czech Republic
- 1957 Beginning of engineering production in Hejnice. Production of hydraulic and mechanical jacks
- 1968 Manufacture of air braking systems for trucks and commercial vehicles
- 1970-1990 Our company became a monopoly manufacturer of some air brake system devices on the Czechoslovak market. The most important customers were: AVIA, KAROSA, LIAZ, TATRA.
- 1990-1991 Due to political changes and price liberalisation, demand fell to 20%. The management of ATESA Jablonec considered the complete liquidation of the Hejnice plant
- 1991 Component cooperation for the Knorr-Bremse Aldersbach plant in Germany begins
- 1993 Establishment of the Knorr-Autobrzdy Jablonec joint venture with a majority share (67%) of Knorr-Bremse Munich
- 1998 Knorr-Bremse Munich bought the remaining share of the company and Knorr-Bremse Systémy pro užitková pojazdów, ČR, s. r. o. was established, with its registered office in Hejnice, 100% owned by Knorr-Bremse Munich
- 2009 At the beginning of 2009, Knorr-Bremse ČR launched an ambitious project to relocate the plant to a new site. At the end of the year, the company successfully relocated to a new plant in the Liberec North industrial zone.
The service offering of the Knorr-Bremse Commercial Vehicle Systems division is based on the cross-cutting technologies of pneumatics, mechanics, electronics and complex control technology. Whether it is driveline, compressed air supply, braking and running gear or wheel brakes: elements of the individual technologies are found in all systems. Knorr-Bremse's system competence is reflected in perfect synergy.
